This Hybrid Medical Research Engineering center opened on the 1st of October in 2013 and is located on the 11th floor of the Nagasaki University hospital. It is part of MEXT’s (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology – Japan) initiative to nurture future medical research professionals through the fusion of Medical and Engineering technologies. The purpose of this center is to ensure the overall smooth management of the “Medical - Engineering hybrid professional development program - Medical Innovation - continuing the Dejima legacy” course.
The main roles of the Hybrid Medic research center are:
1. Implementation of the combined Medical and Engineering course curriculums for both undergraduate and graduate students and faculty, beginning in 2014.
2. Holding regular Hybrid Medic research center councils, external evaluation committee councils, seminars and symposiums.
3. Promoting Hybrid Medic regional exchange and business relations. Two major features of the Hybrid Medic research center are:

(1) The center is comprised of both Graduate school of Biomedical Science and Graduate school of Engineering full time professors, technical and clerical staff. The center fully supports both medical and engineering interdisciplinary research to ensure the effective development of medical equipment.
(2) The center is equipped with a state of the art 3D printer, this makes it possible to easily prototype and manufacture new medical instruments or educational equipment (model body organs etc.).

As outlined above, The Hybrid Medics Training Center is the core of this project and symbolic of the fusion of “Medical and Engineering technologies”.
The staffs are all fully committed to working together in harmony. We look forward to your understanding and cooperation.
